It is with great pleasure that I announce 2018 as my 30th year working in Health and Fitness.
When you do something you love, it does not feel like work, and that has certainly been true for me. My career commenced in 1988 working casually as an Exercise to Music Instructor, Personal Trainer and Strength and Conditioning coach. At the same time I was the head instructor of a karate club with five training venues.
Based on my interest in Eastern philosophy and health, during the 1990s I qualified as a Reflexologist, Reiki Master, and Relaxation and Oriental Massage Therapist. In between working at a gym, treating clients and studying, I ran a personal training business (Spectrum Fitness). As my passion for allied health increased, it slowly overtook my career in the fitness industry.
My passion for health and fitness has enabled me to work in various fields, from palliative patients to elite athletes, as well as travelling overseas. In 2000 my natural therapies business (Spectrum Health and Wellbeing) was taking up more time, so I stopped martial arts training and teaching after 20 years and began lecturing in massage, and for a short while fitness.
For fifteen years I juggled a career working as a lecturer, fitness instructor, running my own business and continually studying, attaining qualifications in Psychotherapy, Myotherapy and Marketing.
As the demands of my allied health business and lecturing commitments increased, at the end of 2015, after 27 years, I decided it was time to move on from the fitness/ gym scene. A year later, at the end of 2016, I retired from lecturing to spend more time on my business, as well as reinstate a better work-life balance. In 2017 I spent the year focusing on the clinic, though I did manage to complete a diploma of Business.
It is now 2018 and my 30th year looking after the health of others. I still have a passion for health and fitness, and I am pleased that the accumulated knowledge I have gathered over the years has enabled me to assist thousands of people live a healthier and happier life. Plans are now in place to pursue the next chapter in my health and fitness journey that will carry me through the next decade of my career.
I look forward to many years ahead assisting and educating people about health.
